South Australian clubs are preparing for battle as the third stop on the Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle gets underway this weekend. Three clubs will compete in the event including reigning champions Seaview Seaview Road Boardriders as well as Seaford Boardriders and South Coast Boardriders.
Corey Taylor (Marion Bay, SA) from “Roaders” is only 18 years old but an ABB veteran.
“This Sunday is the fifth or sixth year I’ve been selected in the team. I’m very excited, we believe we can go back to back. We’re also really excited that two teams get to go through to the Grand Final this year.”
Team manager, Cheryl Peat said the exciting ABB format was enjoyed by surfers and spectators alike and the team was hungry to win again.
“The ABB brings clubs together and has helped our club connect with former members that have enjoyed following our journey over the past few years,” she said.
“We have a strong team including experienced members as well as some up and coming surfers who’ll be competing for the first time. I think all the SA clubs are quite even and it will be a very close battle that will come down to tactics and time management.”
Surfing South Australia Contest Director, Craig Potgieter agreed.
“The clubs all have really strong teams and there is not much in it, any club can win and results are always really close. There is no favourite. I know they are all super keen to get to Burleigh for the final,” he said.
Challenging conditions are expected for the weekend with swell around the 2ft range and light variable winds forecast.
