South Australian Junior Surf Festival Delivers Outstanding Junior State Titles at Middleton Point

Published on 13/05/2026

Feb 2026: The Junior State Titles were held at Middleton Point as part of the South Australian Junior Surf Festival, with competitors greeted by excellent conditions featuring clean 2–3 ft waves throughout the event.

The competition attracted a strong turnout of junior surfers from across the state, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere across the weekend. Special recognition goes to those who travelled long distances to participate, particularly the crews from Streaky Bay and Elliston, whose commitment added greatly to the spirit of the event.

Overall, the event was a major success and was exceptionally well run, thanks to the dedication of the many volunteers who worked behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. A special mention must also go to General Manager Madi Hurley, whose efforts were instrumental in coordinating and delivering such a well-organised competition.

A highlight of the weekend was the involvement of Jamie Killhorn, Head Judge from New South Wales, who travelled to South Australia to oversee the judging panel. His presence provided valuable insight and development opportunities for local judges, helping to further raise the standard of judging throughout the event. The judging team gained significant experience and knowledge, contributing to ongoing improvement within the program.

Having an official of Killhorn’s calibre at a South Australian event also gave competitors important exposure to interstate judging expectations, helping prepare them for future competitions and encouraging higher-level performances in the seasons ahead.
