The Southern Surf Festival is set to make a splash on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia on the final weekend of April (29th and 30th 2023). The two-day celebration of surfing and surf competition will take place at Middleton Point and is expected to attract thousands of visitors and attendees to the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Supported by Alexandrina Council, the Southern Surf Festival will feature over 200 competitors vying for State Championship status in shortboard, longboard along with an inter-club twin-fin and mid- length event. With some of the best surfers in the state participating, it promises to be a thrilling competition.
The event will also feature the inaugural Come and Try Para Surfing Day, with individual sessions, competition and exhibition heats, led by South Australia’s own World Champion, Jocelyn Neumueller.
“We’re thrilled to bring the Southern Surf Festival to the Fleurieu Peninsula,” said Surfing SA CEO, Craig Potgieter.
“It’s an opportunity for us to showcase the best of South Australian surfing and surf culture, while also supporting local communities and organizations. We can’t wait to see you there!”
But the Southern Surf Festival isn’t just about the competition. The festival will have something for everyone, no matter how actively involved in the sport you are. There will be live music, food trucks, vintage board shows, local wine and beer, surf art, and more, making it a family-friendly event that’s not to be missed.
Surfing South Australia is committed to supporting local communities wherever possible, and the Southern Surf Festival is no exception. The festival will work with the disability groups, indigenous surfing programs, learn-to-surf operators, local food vendors, local surf judges, work crew, and volunteers to make the event a success.
For those wanting to give surfing a go for the first time, a range of surf schools will be operating on Sunday. Sunday will also see a more social day take place, with an inter-club teams competition attracting SA-based clubs from the Yorke Peninsula to Robe in the South East. Middleton Point will also host a twin and single-fin event.
The Southern Surf Festival promises to be an exciting event that celebrates South Australian surfing and surf culture. Make sure to mark your calendars for April 29 and 30, 2023, and come experience the fun and excitement of the festival at Middleton Point.
