Great results for Meg Day at Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles

Published on 04/06/2022

The Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles were held at Djarrk (Bells Beach) on Wadawurrung Country from May 27 – 29.  Top First Nations surfers from around Australia were greeted with an amazing clean 2-4ft swell in an empty Bells lineup.

After a welcome to country and smoking ceremony performed by Traditional Land Owner Corrina Eccles on Thursday evening, the competition which was presented by Rip Curl and supported by the likes of Headsox got underway on Thursday morning.

The surfing on display and the spirit of the event were both exceptional, concluding on Sunday.

Meg Day from Yorke Peninsula/Narrunga, SA competed for the first time in the event and completely enjoyed competing and making new friendships in the welcoming environment.

She finished the event on finals day coming runner-up in the Junior Women’s (posting a heat score of 16.40) and coming third in the Open Women’s division.

Meg would like to thank the organisers (especially Jordie Campbell and Surfing Victoria) and competitors for including her in such a special event and will definitely be competing again.
